My dryer is making a creaking and thumping noise?

I just put a VERY small load of laundry in the dryer and the minute I cut it on it make this horrible squeaking and thumping noise. It has never done this. I did a fairly large load right before and it sounded fine. I am thinking the belt may be loose? Has anyone else had this problem? Would it be cheaper to repair it or get another used one? Thanks in advance. My dryer is making a creaking and thumping noise?
Rollers guides could be bad, squeaking is from drum bearing or teflon wear pads on front rim of drum.

Tip.

Unplug dryer - open door look up under top of door opening on dryer - 2 screws going up into dryer top - remove screws.

Look on back of dryer for 2 larger hex screws on at each side of dryer just below back of timer panel. Unscrew bolts and remove sliding J shaped clips.

Pull up easily on top rest it up and back against something.

Now look inside cabinet along sides at top. 2 screws hold sides to front, - remove.

Now you pull front of dryer forward, you will see where front of drum rides inside the round plastic housing. Take some white lithium grease and run around the plastic round flange the drum spins in. Now grab the drum with both hands and pull slowly to the front. Look over the drum down the back, you will see the drum spindle - Take some more grease and reach back and grease this spindle pointing out of the drum and also put some grease back in the hole on the back of the dryer cabinet where the spindle rides.

Now put drum back in position, slide front panel around front rim of drum ,screws back in. Now while top is still off grab the belt going around the drum and pull on it to see how freely the drum turns. This belt actually turns the drum.

To get to the drum rollers and motor you need to pull dryer out so you can get to the back.

Hey while you have this apart, get your shop vac out and suck all the lint from the varous dryer cracks, crevices.

Good Luck.My dryer is making a creaking and thumping noise?
Sounds like the rollers need to be replaced. It's fairly cheap to do. Remove the top and front of the dryer and check the two rollers that support the drum. You should be able to find replacement rollers at your local appliance repair shop.
