How do i add an image to the picture you are making using GIMP?

I am using GIMP, but i dont know how to add an image that is on my computer to the background that i created. I am trying to make a cool layout, but i can seem to find what to do to add images. Can anyone help me?How do i add an image to the picture you are making using GIMP?
You can open the folder that contains the image and then just drag the image file onto the canvas.

Each image will be it's own layer -- and you can switch between them by using the Layers Window (also called the Layers Dialog). To find the Layers Window you go to Windows -%26gt; Dockable Dialogs -%26gt; Layers. You can now activate each separate Layer by clicking on them. This way you can activate an image layer and do stuff like resize, move or rotate (or whatever).

You can also click on a Layer (in the Layers window) and drag it to the top. This is useful for making it visible if it has been hidden beneath the layers above it (another way is you can click on the eyes on the layers above to make them invisible).

I find it helps to think of layers as being like a stack of paper. So for example if you use the eraser tool on a layer, it is like cutting out a shape in the sheet of paper.. so that whatever is painted on the sheet underneath shows through.

Once you have done creating your work of art you can merge all the layers into one by going to Image -%26gt; 'flatten image'.

Or instead you could go to image -%26gt; 'merge visible layers'. But only do it that way if you only want the visible layers to be included (these are the ones with the eye showing in the Layers Window).

When working with layers you should save in a file format that supports layers (e.g. TIFF) But once you have flattened or merged the image into one layer then you can save it as any format you want. I recommend PNG since it does not lose image quality from compression and it can be displayed on a web-page. But JPEG is also an option especially if you want a smaller file size that loads faster.

Good luck an have fun!How do i add an image to the picture you are making using GIMP?
from desktop , drag and drop icon onto image edit window, this creates new layer with file, or open file as layers,

you may have to increase canvas size if file images are larger than boundary frame,

you can also drag and drop on to toolbar, to open as new image or open as new file, then copy and paste over other image,

save as xcf, then save copy as other format when done,
