3mm wire is very thick to be used for an earring. I would advise using something much thinner in the creation of an earring. Maybe 24 or 26mm. Remember, the larger the number, the thinner the wire.





If you are making a basic pair of strung beads (just a simple line), you may want to use a head pin instead of wire.





If you are creating a loop earring, you would want to bring both ends up, create a loop and then wrap the wire around just under the loop. Make sure to smash the ends down really well so anyone wearing the earrings won't be scratched by the cut end.
